[ARCHIVED] Public Works Newsflash: No One Wants a Clogged Christmas

holiday-cooking-768x512

As you’re roasting, brining, and toasting this holiday season, let’s show a little love to our drains!

Holiday cooking is hard on pipes, and a few common kitchen habits can quickly turn festive cheer into a plumbing nightmare. Here’s how to keep things flowing smoothly:

Don’t pour these down the drain:

  • Cooking grease, oils, or fats
  • Turkey drippings or gravy leftovers
  • Brines and salty marinades
  • Food scraps (even with a garbage disposal)

Do this instead:

  • Let grease cool, then pour it into a container and toss it in the trash
  • Scrape plates into the trash before washing
  • Wipe greasy pans with a paper towel first

A little prevention now helps avoid backups, bad smells, and emergency plumbing calls later. Trust us—nobody wants a clogged Christmas!

Thank you for helping protect our sewer system and keeping our community flowing smoothly all season long.
